Judge: Nestande did not violate probation at SXSW party

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Gabrielle Nestande did not violate her probation after attending a South by Southwest event, according to a Travis County judge on Thursday.

Nestande used to be a legislative aide at the state Capitol before she was convicted of negligent homicide in 2013 for the hit-and-run crash that took Courtney Griffin’s life. She is currently serving 10 years of community supervision.

Photos recently surfaced of Nestande holding a water bottle at a SXSW party on Rainey Street. The 12 p.m. party was a fashion event sponsored by Neiman Marcus.

After state officials questioned what was in the water bottle, they checked her alcohol monitor which showed she had not been drinking. She usually tests for alcohol three times a day.

The Griffin family said they agree with the judge’s decision, and they’re happy she is being watched but more importantly, authorities have sent the message that she is being watched.
