Austin (KXAN)- It seems like we are completely through the worst of winter, so now it’s time to plant your garden.
KXAN always receives calls and emails into the weather center asking “is it ok to plant yet?”
Chief Weathercaster Jim Spencer says it really is all a question of where you live.
In the Austin metro area you should have no problem planting. The freezes should be done for the season.
In the Hill country, on the other hand, plant with caution. In past years, the area has had a freeze as late as April 20th.
Experts say its important to make sure you pick the right type of plants.
“If you are looking for drought tolerant plants look at how much sunlight you’re getting in that area and look at how much sunlight is listed for that plant,” said Mark Gibbs of Great Outdoors. “That way the plant will be heartier throughout the year and not be stressing if it is not getting the right conditions.”
