LONDON (NBC/LONDON ZOO HANDOUT VIA APTN) — Three Sumatran tiger cubs made their first public appearance at the London Zoo this week.

The cubs were born in London last month.

As they took their first steps into their new enclosure, their mother watched on.

A zoo employee described the mother as very protective and said that the zoo isn’t sure about the sex of the cubs yet.

Sumatran tigers are a very rare species and are listed as Critically Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
