Man detained after police say he confessed to killing woman in Wimberley

Shaun-Mireles

WIMBERLEY, Texas (KXAN) — A 45-year-old San Antonio area woman was found dead outside a rented cottage in Wimberley on Wednesday morning.

Another renter called 911 after finding Denise M. Manning lying dead in the driveway of the Cypress Creek Cottages around 8:15 a.m. A cause of death has not been determined, but Hays County Sheriff Gary Culter said she did have stab wounds on her body.

Hays County Sheriff deputies also found Shaun Mireles, 22, at the home suffering from stab wounds which they believe were self-inflicted. While investigating the death, Cutler said Mireles confessed to killing Manning.

Mireles was flown by helicopter to an Austin area hospital to be treated for his injuries, but Cutler said he will be arrested.

Police say Mireles has a short criminal history involving only misdemeanor offenses.

Mireles and the Manning were both from the San Antonio area and had rented a cottage in Wimberley on Tuesday.

Their exact relationship is unknown. The last person to see the couple before the incident was a maintenance worker who was called to fix their unit’s television around 9 p.m. Tuesday night. That worker told investigators nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
