AUSTIN (KXAN) — Just as the playoff chaos of March Madness unfolds, there’s a special story about a Michigan State basketball player and an 8-year-old girl named Lacey Holsworth that’s arisen – a heartwarming story that commands a timeout from the world.

The Huffington Post says it’ll “fill your heart with March Gladness,” and the Big Ten Network’s YouTube video is definitely showing us why.

Lacey has neuroblastoma, an aggressive cancer that attacks the nerve tissue, according to Huffington. She met Adreian Payne, also known as “AP,” on one of the basketball team’s trips to visit people at the hospital.

It just so happened, that was the hospital where Lacey was getting her treatments, and she asked AP to stay. That’s where the story of their two-year friendship begins.

Lacey’s mom says there are days when the smiles don’t come as easily, but AP has a way of making Lacey’s world light up in an instant.

Her dad says it means everything; when he picks her up, she feels way above the world — comforted.

If you stick around to the end of the video, Lacey has a special message for AP — who’s now a senior — as he gets ready to leave the Michigan State Spartans.

You can also follow Lacey on Twitter @adorablelacey, who seems to be fighting like a Spartan at “8 years old and beating cancer one dance step at a time.” AP’s handle is @adreian_payne.
