Man walking on N. Lamar killed by hit-and-run driver

AUSTIN (KXAN) —  Police are looking for the driver who struck and killed a man walking on North Lamar Boulevard near Payton Gin Road on Monday evening.

According to police, the crash happened just after 9 p.m. Witnesses told police the driver was in a red Ford pick-up truck.

The man, in his 60s, was attempting to cross from east to west and was hit by a truck traveling south. Authorities are still trying to determine if the pedestrian was in a crosswalk.

The man was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge, but police said he died a short time later.

All lanes of North Lamar were closed while police investigated the crash.

This was Austin’s 11th fatal traffic crash and the 15th fatality of 2014. At this time in 2013, there were 22 traffic fatalities.
