Neighbors discuss Oak Hill Parkway congestion

Austin (KXAN) – Long commutes and heavy traffic continue to be issues affecting all of us. One of the busiest areas, the Y at Oak Hill. It was the focus of a workshop on Saturday.

The Oak Hill Parkway study is the first step in relieving congestion in the area along 290.

People who have lived near there for years say they always take alternate routes.

“I have not driven in the Y for probably five years because I find it much faster to get over to Loop 1 on Slaughter Lane than it is to go through the Y,” said neighbor David Richardson.

At the workshop people got the chance to learn about how the road work may be funded and how it could effect a project’s timeline.

TxDOT says they have eight options for the roads near the Y including not doing anything at all.

The Oak Hill Parkway study is the first step in a multiyear Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority and Texas Department of Transportation effort seeking ways to alleviate congestion problems and investigate potential effects of possible transportation projects on Hwy. 290. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
