Mayor Leffingwell spends lunchbreak delivering meals to elderly

Mayor Leffingwell, Meals on Wheels

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Mayor Lee Leffingwell spent his lunch break Tuesday afternoon delivering meals to the elderly.

The gesture was part of a larger effort for mayors across the country to support the mission of Meals on Wheels this week.

Leffingwell picked up hot meals and cold items from the Meals on Wheels Center on East 5th St. and hand delivered those items to three homebound and disabled elderly in the community.

“This is a priority for me. It always has been. Meals on Wheels is one of my favorite organizations. I don’t want to say it’s my favorite because I don’t want other people to attack me, but its certainly one of my favorite organizations here in the city of Austin,” said Leffingwell. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
