AUSTIN (KXAN) — As people continue to move to the Austin-area, the number of homes needed is on the rise.
A new master-planned community in southeast Austin is hoping to help with the housing shortage.
On Wednesday, Brookfield Residential broke ground on Addison, a 200-acre master-planned community.
Customers will be able to choose from a variety of budgets as well as three different lot sizes and four different homebuilders.
Once completed, the community will have 550 homes.
“Austin’s powerful growth and unique culture means high demand for great places to live, and Addison will deliver a new home community in line with those needs,” said Shaun Cranston, senior vice president, Brookfield Residential Texas.
“This city is in the midst of a remarkable housing recovery, with 10,000 home starts predicted in the next 12 months,” said Cranston. “A lot of this development is being fueled by in-migration of nearly 1,000 people per week, and we feel southeast Austin, where Addison is located, is poised for major growth.”
