Condo fire in West Austin sparked by discarded cigarette

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A fire that broke out in a townhome in West Austin on Wednesday afternoon appears to have been started by a lit cigarette left on a balcony.

Austin firefighters responded to the fire just after 3 p.m. at the Valleyside Place Condos at 6600 block of Valleyside Road.

911 callers said there was smoke coming from a two-story building.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within 15 minutes but the fire damaged the main unit and two other units had smoke damage.
