Rapper Tyler the Creator arrested for causing SXSW riot

Austin (KXAN)- Austin Police say they have arrested rapper Tyler, The Creator for starting a riot during a performance at SXSW on Thursday.

Tyler, The Creator, real name Tyler Gregory Okonma, was performing at Scoot Inn at 1308 East 4th Street. The venue had reached its maximum capacity of 999 people inside.

During the performance, Okonma yelled into the crowd of people waiting outside the venue, “All y’all outside the gates, y’all push through.”

Police on scene working security said that the crowd began pushing past employees and making their way inside.

Okonma kept urging them to push their way inside and apologized to the employees from the stage.

One employee reported he was punched in the face by someone in the crowd.

Okonma is facing a Class A Misdemeanor charge which has a bond of $25,000.
