When they arrived on scene, firefighters reported a heavy fire in the back of the small church along Annie Street just east of South Congress Avenue.

Crews later reported parts of the roof had collapsed and that they were taking a defensive approach to battling the flames.

Austin police said nearby residents were evacuated from their homes while crews combated the fire.

AFD Investigators say the blaze was caused by an electrical issue.

Damages are estimated at $300,000.

No injuries were reported.
