AUSTIN (KXAN) — The calls, photos and questions streamed into the KXAN newsroom as a team of five planes equipped with dot-matrix skywriting technology passed over Austin on Thursday, writing out a display of letters and numbers across the blue sky.

This public art project was a celebration of the universal language of pi.

The planes were flying at an altitude of 10,000 feet and covered a 100-square-mile radius.

Each character was the size of a skyscraper and the messages were typed out in the sky through a computer system that synchronized the skywriting of the five aircraft.
