More than $50,000 already raised for SXSW crash victims

AUSTIN (KXAN) — To assist residents and visitors still trying to cope with the tragic situation that happened on Red River Street, the City of Austin, SXSW and the American Red Cross of Central Texas will open an Emotional Support Center for the rest of the weekend.

The Emotional Support Center will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15, at the Austin Convention Center, at 500 E Cesar Chavez St., Room 5C.

The jointly-operated center will focus on providing counseling and emotional support to SXSW staff and volunteers, as well as residents or visitors who were impacted by the incident in which a car ran through barricades and killed two people and injured 23 others.

The Red Cross is also operating information assistance phones lines to help impacted individuals connect with loved ones or to talk with a counselor by phone. To gather information on loved ones or to talk to a counselor, call the Red Cross at 1-800-928-4271
