AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man killed at Club Zota, in Southeast Austin, earlier this month was apparently shot by his former brother-in-law in what appeared to be an accidental shooting.
According to an arrest warrant, Arturo Torres, 28, was playing billiards with Edgar Macedo, 26, and another friend when Torres accidentally bumped into a random guy which started an argument.
When Macedo went to use the restroom, Arturo noticed that he was being followed by the same guys that started the argument. When Torres got to the restroom, Macedo and the other two men were fighting. In an attempt to break up the fight, Torres pulled out a handgun. One of the other men tried to wrestle it away from him causing the gun to fire one round, striking Macedo.
Everyone involved in fight left the club before police arrived at the scene.
Torres’ brother, Isidoro Torres, told authorities he received a call from Torres a few hours after the shooting happened and he told him what happened at the club. In the warrant, Isidoro, said Torres and Macedo were best friends.
Austin police are currently looking for Torres. Once arrested, he will be charged with manslaughter.
