AUSTIN (KXAN)- The Zilker Park Kite Festival has been cancelled for the year. The threat of rain is responsible for ruining the fun.

On Saturday night, Festival official Ryann Malone with Wyatt Brand sent out the following letter:

ZILKER KITE FEST UPDATE: Due to inclement weather, we will not be holding the Zilker Kite Festival tomorrow. There will be no other rain date.

When we decided yesterday to move forward, the forecast was looking much more promising – but unfortunately the weather has taken a turn for the worse. After much consideration and discussion with the city, we have decided to cancel the festival tomorrow. We want to be especially respectful of our home – Zilker Park – and with this type of weather, we risk doing too much damage to the park under these wet conditions.

While we’re disappointed that we won’t be able to fly together this year, we already have our sights set on a bigger and better fest for next year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
