AUSTIN (KXAN)- Despite the rain Saturday, thousands of people still made it downtown where SXSW and lots of activities are taking place.
But if you live here in Austin — dealing with the crowds and the traffic could be the last thing you want to do on the weekend.
Capital Metro is offering a solution by running their Metro Rail service later and more frequently.
During both Saturdays of SXSW, Capital Metro will have extended hours on Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 2 a.m. On March 10 – 11 the train will run until 7 p.m., and on March 12-13 the Metro Rail will run until 12:30 a.m. On Friday, March 14, you can ride the train until 1 a.m.
During SXSW it’s no secret that Downtown Austin traffic is at its worse. Dad, Anthony Ureste still wanted to show his two boys a good time downtown with as little headaches as possible.
“We just came down for the Gaming Expo,” said Ureste. “We came from Wells Branch so we took the Howard Train down to the downtown stop.”
Many of the regular parking spots downtown are now designated for special events, and even the sidewalks are packed with visitors. Many Austin drivers have decided have decided to stay indoors until it’s all over.
