Free fun at SXSW

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Thousands of people attend the free South by Southwest music showcases every year.

But that’s not the only way to have fun without a wristband.

FreeFuninAustin.com creator, Heidi Gollub has put together a list of almost 100 other free, family-friendly events happening during the 10-day festival.

One of the big ones coming up is called SXSW Create.  It opens on Friday at 11 a.m. on the Long Center city terrace so it’s outside.

“Even if you have kids who aren’t 100% interested in what’s going on, they can hang out outside.  Last year we went for the first time,” said Gollub.  “My 7-year-old was interested for a bit then wandered off and played with rocks. But the 10-year-old could have stayed for hours. He got really involved in the hands-on projects they had there. He created his own toy that could be printed by a 3-D printer. They were printing there so you could see how the toys come to life when they’re printing.”
