IRVING, Texas (AP) — Retail gasoline prices are up a penny this week across Texas as some travelers prepare for spring break.

AAA Texas on Thursday reported the average price per gallon stands at $3.23. Nationwide gasoline prices rose 3 cents to reach $3.47 per gallon.

The survey found Beaumont has the state’s cheapest gasoline at $3.16 per gallon. Dallas-Fort Worth has the most expensive gasoline at $3.30 per gallon.

Meanwhile, the travel group’s annual survey on Texas spring break travel found nearly two-thirds of those polled — 64 percent — plan a leisure trip. Trips are defined as traveling at least 50 miles from home with an overnight stay from March through May.

Austin was voted the top in-state destination for spring break travelers. Out-of-state plans favored New Orleans and Las Vegas.

The poll was conducted Feb. 26 to March 4 and surveyed 533 AAA Texas members. The survey has a plus-or-minus margin of error of 4.2 percent.
