APD reminds SXSW visitors to be safe

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Over the next 10 days, Austin will see an influx in visitors and with that comes the opportunity for thieves to also cash-in on the crowds.

The Austin Police Department says thieves target public streets, shopping malls, hotels, apartment complexes, hike & bike trails, hospitals, large parking facilities and residential driveways.

Vehicle owners should remember to hide valuables and park in well-lit areas.

With limited parking during SXSW, be careful where you park.  If your vehicle gets towed from a public street or alley you will need to call Southside Wrecker at (512) 441-7094.

If you’re bicycling around town, make sure you have a heavy duty lock.

Pedestrians are also reminded to follow signage and cross in crosswalks.
