AUSTIN (KXAN) — When people walk through a construction walkway, they usually don’t think anything of it, but one construction site is hoping you’ll enjoy your stroll through its construction walkway.

On Monday, the developer of Colorado Tower, located at the corner of Colorado Street and Third Street, unveiled a 136-foot-long mural on the southern end of the building.

Over the past six weeks, the street artists have been working on transforming 34 panels into works of art that reflects Austin’s downtown vibe.

Brad Maxfield, Mike Johnston, Lucas Aoki, Brandon Mike, and Brian Maclaskey were the five Austin artists chosen for the project.

“To be blunt, I drive around downtown and see all these walkways – and they’re just plain ugly,” said Tim Hendricks, senior vice president with Cousin Properties – the person overseeing the development of Colorado Tower. “We needed to do something to raise the bar.”

Construction on the Colorado Tower will be complete by the end of the year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
