SXSWedu gets set to kick off ahead of SXSW


AUSTIN (KXAN) — The South by Southwest before SXSW starts this weekend.

SXSWedu registration starts Sunday and the conference will run Monday through Thursday.

Austin ISD is one of the partners, and some teachers and students will take part in the events at the Austin Convention Center and the Hilton Downtown.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Norma and Vivienne Ming, talking classroom technology
  • Former Education Secretary Rod Paige, with a discussion on education as a civil rights issue
  • Actor Jeffrey Tambor, who has 40 years of education experience

SXSWedu started in 2011.

Close to 4,500 people were registered for the event last year, about eight times more people than the inaugural year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
