Firefighters battled a fire that damaged a quad-plex in North Austin late Tuesday night.
According to the Austin Fire Department, the fire started around 9:30 p.m. in the 11600 block of April Drive. Someone living in the building called 9-1-1 when the smoke alarm went off.
When firefighters originally arrived on scene, there was fire showing on an outside wall.
Crews were able to get the fire under control less than 40 minutes later.
Everyone inside the building was able to get out safely but eight people are looking for a place to spend the night. The Red Cross was assisting those residents.
While a cause hasn’t been determined, officials believe the fire started in the walls.
