Aereo announces launch date in Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A technology company that allows subscribers to view live TV on mobile devices announced it will make its services available in Austin in March.

Aereo, which has already launched it services in four other Texas markets, is a cloud-based technology that allows users to access over-the-air broadcast signals in real time or to watch them later through their phones, tablets and computers. Aereo will be launching in 12 counties in the Greater Austin area: Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Gillespie, Hays, Lee, Llano, Mason, Travis and Williamson.

To promote their service, the tech company is offering anyone who subscribes on their website priority access to sign up when streaming becomes available on March 3. Austin subscribers will be able to record and watch 19 over-the-air channels, including KXAN. Membership begins at $8 a month, with options to upgrade to more DVR storage. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
