AUSTIN (TEXAS TRIBUNE) — A new poll puts Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott just 11 points ahead of Democrat Wendy Davis, if the November general election were to happen today.

KXAN media partner the Texas Tribune — along with the University of Texas — released the new poll numbers at 6 a.m. Monday.

Of course, Abbott and Davis have to make it through the March 4 primaries first.

The poll shows we’re likely looking at a Republican runoff in the race for lieutenant governor; 37 percent of those surveyed picked incumbent David Dewhurst.

State Sen. Dan Patrick is close behind with 31 percent. Meanwhile, Todd Staples and Jerry Patterson trail in the teens.

The poll also shows likely runoffs in the republican races for attorney general and comptroller. Early voting runs through Friday.
