AUSTIN (KXAN) — The body of the missing fisherman was found Tuesday at Hatter Cove on Lake Travis, the Travis County Sheriffs Office said.

Dive teams recovered the body of 54-year-old Benjamin Bourgeois around 10:30 a.m.

“The man was found in about 25 feet of water, where he had reportedly gone in,” said Roger Wade, Travis County Sheriff’s Office. “The water was very, very murky there…they were basically feeling around trying to locate something. Also, it was very, very cold.”

An official cause of death has not yet been released, but foul play is not expected, police said.

On Saturday, a person called 911 at about 11:30 p.m. reporting they saw a fisherman fall off of a dock in the area. TCSO, DPS helicopters, STAR Flight, Austin/Travis County EMS and boats from Lake Travis Fire Rescue immediately began searching for the man in the 17000 block of Whippoorwill trail, near Lago Vista.

Rescue swimmers were out of the water and the search was converted to recovery mode by about 12:20 a.m. Sunday, authorities said. Divers continued searching for the man Sunday morning and again on Monday without success.

KXAN reached out to the man’s family but they refused comment.
