Deadly Northwest Austin crash investigated as suicide

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police are investigating a Northwest Austin car crash as a suicide.

Officers said a man was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 183 shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday when his car went off the road and slammed into a concrete column on the access road, underneath the on-ramp to northbound MoPac.

The man was pinned inside the vehicle and died on the scene. No other passengers were inside the car. Police said Sunday they were not sure if alcohol was involved or if speed was a factor.

The southbound 183 frontage road and the 183 on-ramp were closed in the area while officers investigated.
