Travis County experiencing deadliest flu season in five years

AUSTIN (KXAN) — As the flu season continues, three more people have died in Travis County as a result of a the flu.

As of Feb. 14, the Austin Travis County Health Department says there have been 19 deaths related to the flu.

Of the 19 deaths, 11 were younger than 60-years-old and two were younger than 18 years of age. Nine died in December 2013 and 10 died in January 2014.

This flu season has been the deadliest flu season in Travis County in the past five years.

According to the health department, the number of influenza-associated deaths reported during the prior five influenza seasons ranged from 1 to 16.
