LAMPASAS, Texas (KXAN) — A mail bin outside the Lampasas post office was burglarized on President’s Day, a postal inspector said.
This was the second incident at the post office after thieves broke into boxes inside and outside the building in late January.
Workers are urging residents in the community to go inside and drop off any mail or packages with an employee.
Authorities said at least 16 post offices in Central Texas had been targeted since Christmas, and locations in Florence, Liberty Hill, Salado, Hutto had been hit twice.
On Feb. 13, Travis County deputies arrested two people accused of stealing checks from a mailbox and then reproducing them and using the checks at several area stores.
A US Postal Inspector said at then that the pair may have been tied to the string of thefts at area post offices.
Authorities were also working to determine if the pair may have part of a larger operation.
