Police chase suspect identified, but still on the run

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police have the name of the man who led them on a chase last week, but are still trying to track him down.

An officer tried to pull over Long Trach Ly, 33, for a defective light near Lamar Boulevard and Yager Lane at about 4:45 a.m.

Ly sped off down Lamar Boulevard before crashing into a tree stump at a North Austin playground, police said.

Surveillance video from the Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ caught the car racing through the parking lot with officers is close pursuit.

Ly crashed his car through a gate and right into the school’s playground.  He was able to jump out and run into the woods.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office and Austin Police Department dispatched about a dozen units — plus a K-9 unit — to search for the suspect.

He faces a felony charge of evading.
