Man arrested for assaulting teen he met through mobile app

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police found and arrested the man charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl after meeting her using a social media app.

Authorities had been looking for Miguel Angel Gutierrez, 30, of Austin, for nearly two months after the girl initially reported she had been kidnapped from her school in Flatonia. Investigators later found the girl had not been kidnapped, but that she met with Gutierrez after talking to him through a social media app. It was during this meeting that he allegedly assaulted her.

Police did not say what app the two used to connect.

Fayette County Sheriff”s Office and the Flatonia Police Department were able to identify and indict the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest.

He was arrested by Austin Police officers and taken to Travis County jail where he posted a $100,000 personal recognizance bond. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
