Family pleads for clues in slaying of two South Texas girls

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Family members of two young children killed when gunfire tore through a South Texas home say they were holding a birthday party for one of the children when the violence erupted.

The families of 2-year-old Lillyanna Valent and 6-year-old Nevaeh Oliva held a news conference Wednesday pleading for information from the public on those responsible for firing on the Corpus Christi home.

The families had gathered Sunday evening for a birthday party for Lillyanna and her brother. Police believe more than one gunman was involved because of the number of shots fired.

Lillyanna was struck in the head and Nevaeh in the chest. The girls were cousins.

Police have released few details of their investigation and are working to determine a motive. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
