New burn ban in Travis County

Celeste Griffin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Travis County Commissioners Court voted Tuesday to ban outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of the county.  The burn ban will expire on March 19.

Resources:

According to the Travis County Fire Marshal Hershel Lee STAR flight responded to a fire in McDade and one in Florence on the weekend of Feb. 14 to 16. As conditions continue to dry, the chances for fire increase.

The outdoor burning ban doesn’t affect prescribed burns under supervision of a prescription burn manager. Outdoor hot work remains unaffected. To obtain a permit for either of these activities, contact the Travis County Fire Marshal’s Office or the fire department.

If you have questions about the burn ban, please call the Fire Marshal’s Office at 512-854-4621, or contact your local fire department.
