AUSTIN (KXAN) — The body recovered from Lady Bird Lake on Monday morning has been identified as the missing student from St. Edward’s University. Eleno Valle’s body was found near Lavaca and Cesar Chavez.

Austin Police Homicide Unit is investigating the death as a suicide for the time being.

APD Public Information Officer Veneza Bremner says the body had been in the lake for at least a week.

On Monday afternoon, St. Edward’s University confirmed via the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office it was Valle’s body.

Valle was reported missing by his family on Feb. 7.

In a statement, St. Edward’s University said, “The past 10 days while Eleno was missing have been a period of anxious waiting for the university community. We are saddened by the news of Eleno’s death and our sincere condolences go out to his family and friends.”
