Rollover spurs I-35 backup at Slaughter Lane (Texas Department of Transportation traffic camera)

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A rollover wreck involving four cars at Mile marker 227 in South Austin had the lanes of Interstate 35 heading north shut down for quite some time.

Police have reopened all lanes of I-35.

The crash hurt five people, one of whom EMS crews took to University Medical Center Brackenridge with life-threatening injuries.

The entrance ramp to I-35 just before Slaughter Lane is closed. Police do not have an estimated time for the highway reopening.

Police said the crash flung one person out of the car just before 9:30 a.m. EMS crews took that person to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, an unrelated two-car wreck happened in the lanes heading south on I-35 — though those remained open. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
