Deputies still searching for car chase suspect

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An attempted traffic stop set off a manhunt in North Austin early Friday morning.

An officer tried to pull over the suspected driver for a defective light near Lamar and Yager Lane at about 4:45 a.m.

The driver sped off leading police on a ten minute chase down Lamar, onto Braker Lane and through a neighborhood.   Surveillance video caught the driver speeding through the parking lot of the Brentwood Christian School on Swearingen Drive,  just south of Walnut Creek Park.

The driver crashed his maroon four door car through a gate and right into the school’s playground.  He was able to jump out and run off.

The Sheriff’s Office and Austin Police Department dispatched about a dozen units — plus a K-9 unit — to search for the suspect.  They do not know who he is and believe he was possibly intoxicated at the time.

They described the suspect as an Asian man in his 20s last seen wearing a blue jacket with yellow stripes on the shoulder.

Deputies stayed in contact with the Austin Independent School District because they were concerned they might have to divert some school buses from the search area. That proved unnecessary, and Brentwood Christian School
