AUSTIN (KXAN) — A construction worker sustained serious injuries on Thursday after he fell through the flooring of a building under construction on West Campus.
Austin Firefighters used a ladder to reach the man then hauled him down from the top of the building with a gurney. EMS reports he had serious injuries but he was conscious on the way down.
Emergency personnel said the booming Austin skyline presents a problem during these types of accidents because buildings are not equipped with elevators or stairways yet, so they have to access the floors with wooden ladders. They have a specialized bucket that allows them to lift people from as high as the tenth floor, and they use the help of a special operations group trained in case they need trained professionals to use rope to lower a victim.
The building will be a multi-story housing complex for students called The Crest at Pearl.
