Trial for accused cop killer starts next week

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A jury of 10 women and two men has been chosen in the capital murder case against Brandon Daniel.

Daniel, 26, is accused of shooting and killing Austin police officer Jaime Padron at a north Austin Walmart in April 2012.

In December, Daniel plead not guilty to Padron’s murder.

Jury questionnaires were sent out on Jan. 6 and jury selection started on Jan. 28.

Opening arguments will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 in Judge Brenda Kennedy’s court.

Prosecutors in the case are seeking the death penalty.
