Westlake Red Cheerleading wins national championship for second year


AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Westlake Cheerleaders won their second national title on Sunday at the 2014 National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Fla.

475 teams competed at four venues at the Walt Disney World Resorts with more than 10,000 cheerleaders present from over 33 states. Every team had to qualify at a regional even in order to earn a bid to Orlando.

Westlake Red competed against 27 teams in the Super Varsity Divison 1. After the first day of competition, the Red team made the finals and was in first. On the second day, the competition was narrowed down to 14 teams before Westlake Red was named the national champion.
