AUSTIN (KXAN) — Art in Public Places, a program of the city of Austin’s Cultural Arts Division of the Economic Development Department, is looking for volunteers finish the North Austin Community Garden located at 1000 W. Rundberg Lane.

Art in Public Places commissioned artists Lucy Begg and Robert Gay to design and oversee the garden’s construction . The city of Austin Sustainable Urban Agriculture and Community Gardens Program and Sustainable Food Center, the YMCA of Austin, and Art in Public Places will host three community participation days to complete the project.

Volunteers will be weaving PVC-coated steel wire through a fence framework to create a colorful and functional barrier for the garden. Volunteers can also help by planting trees and grass with the help of De Lara Landscaping, or they can construct raised garden beds.

Refreshments will be provided. To RSVP or more information on the community participation days, visit the project website.
