APD starts Operation Safe Passage

Austin police

AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Austin Police Department announced Thursday they will launch Operation Safe Passage.

The operation is a safety initiative that places officers in high visible areas around 6th Street where people tend to gather. The officers’ main responsibility will be to deter and quickly respond to any incidents that require police intervention.

The primary focus will be from the 6th Street entertainment district to the new parking area along IH-35 and streets east of IH-35.

The goal is to reduce the number of incidents as people are trying to make it to their cars as they leave the 6th Street.

This initiative will start Friday, February 7.
