San Marcos airport gets lift from state

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — State transportation officials have approved some $5.7 million for pavement and lighting improvements at the San Marcos Municipal Airport.

The funding is part of a $60 million initiative by the Texas Department of Transportation to help plan, construct and maintain some 275 community airports across the state, officials said.

The San Marcos improvements will be funded through the city of San Marcos and TxDOT’s Aviation Facilities Grant Program, which preserves and improves the state’s general aviation system.

Arrivals and departures from community airports account for more than three million flight hours per year and provide aircraft facilities for agricultural, medical, business and commuter use, TxDOT officials said in a news release. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
