Fuel spill closes 183A in Leander

LEANDER (KXAN) – All lanes of 183A remain closed from San Gabriel Parkway to Hero Way in Leander while crews clean-up a fuel spill. Cedar Park police say an 18 wheeler hauling fuel rolled over at about 6:15 Sunday morning.

Police say the truck was heading north on 183A when it rolled over between San Gabriel Parkway and Hero Way. The driver was taken to St. David’s Medical Center Round Rock in serious condition.

Officials say north and southbound lanes of 183A will be closed for several hours as crews clean-up the mess. Traffic will be diverted to 183. Police say traffic on San Gabriel Parkway and Hero Way should not be affected. Authorities continue to investigate what caused the crash.

“We don’t even know the quantity that has escaped the truck,”  said Leander Fire Department Assistant Chief Stuart Heater.

Heater said the fuel only spilled onto the roadway and a nearby ditch.
