Austinites explore clean energy options

Many Austinites explore cleaner energy options.

Heating your home in a deep winter like this can be expensive — many folks are turning to cleaner, cheaper alternatives. Austin is becoming the place to do just that.

Saturday consumers and innovators met in Southeast Austin at ImagineSolar to see what the future holds.

Developers and contractors from across the world came to connect a mock solar installation to Austin’s energy grid.

“I’m from England but I live in Australia,” said Scott Billington. “It’s just a win for everyone, I win, the planet wins, the people win.”

In the world of clean energy there is a lot going on right here in Austin.  For example, The Austin-based group CleanTx just struck up an international trade deal
with energy companies in the Netherlands, France, and Germany. They’re also hosting an event in March to unveil a solar paneled carport.

Electricians, builders, and architects are all trying to catch the new wave, as more homeowners look to go green and save some greenbacks.

ImagineSolar says having solar panels on your home can cut your energy bill up to 75%.

“Particularly in the summer time can really take the edge off your electric bill can really take the edge off their energy bill we have some people who are able to install system and able to see their bill cut in half sometimes more,” said ImagineSolar representative Doug Soester.

The group holds these classes once a month to stir up clean energy discussions in the community. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
