Two people found dead in NW Austin apartment

Homicide detectives are investigating a suspicious death at 10610 Morado Circle (Paul Shelton / KXAN)

APD homicide detectives are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman whose bodies were found in a Northwest Austin apartment complex Saturday morning.

At 3:30 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the Great Hills Apartments in the 10600 block of Morado Circle after residents heard shots fired. Officers investigated, but were unable to locate where the shots originated.

At about 8:20 Saturday morning, a resident of the apartment complex saw blood on their patio and called 911. Officers responded and were able to determine where the blood originated. They then discovered the bodies inside an apartment. Officers did not release the relationship of the victims or whether or not they lived in the apartment.

On October 6, 2013, a man was found dead in the same apartment building. Police found John Thomas Haney dead after they say he was shot by his girlfriend, 37-year-old Elizabeth Garcia. She is charged with murder.

Police say residents in the area do not need to be concerned for their safety. Officers believe Saturday’s shooting and the shooting in October are isolated incidents. However, residents who spoke to KXAN say they are worried. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
