Man dead in San Marcos home invasion acted alone

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — Investigators determined the man that was found dead after a home burglary in San Marcos in January was acting alone.

On January 31, around 2:30 p.m., a family came across an unwanted guest when they tried to get into their home.

According to the Hays County Sheriff’s Office, when the family tried to open the door to their home in the 800 block of Crest Circle Drive, they got resistance from inside. The family told authorities they heard voices of at least two people inside the home.

The Hays County’s Sheriff’s Office continued the investigation and found that the homeowner fired a weapon in the residence.

The SWAT team entered the residence late in the evening after unsuccessful attempts to have the suspects surrender.

Once inside the residence, tactical officers found the body of a 20-year-old male who had suffered a gunshot wound.

The man was identified as Kevin Ray Rodriguez. According to Lieutenant Dennis Gutierrez, the CID Commander, investigators were able to locate several subjects who provided information that proved Rodriguez had acted alone in the burglary.

The homeowner and his children were not harmed during the incident.

The case will now be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for review and presentation to the Grand Jury.
