Police not releasing cause of death after body turns up at recycling center

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Authorities are not yet releasing the cause of death in the death of 26-year-old Shaybren Harris.

According to the Travis County Sheriff’s office, they are withholding how she was killed while they search for her murderer.

Harris’s body was found Monday, Jan. 27 around 9:10 p.m. at a recycling facility at 9301 Johnny Morris Road.

According to the manager of Balcones Resources, Inc., the body was found by an employee sorting through collected materials. When the worker saw Harris’s body on the conveyor belt, they pulled the emergency stop and called police.

“We just feel horrible for the family of the person whose body we found,” said Kerry Getter, CEO of Balcones Resources. “We don’t know anything about her, where she came from…literally know nothing at this point.”

Getter said 75 to 100 trucks, from multiple companies, may drop off tons of recycling material at the center for processing on a given day.

“Evidently the body came in with some of that material that was delivered and it wasn’t discovered until later that night,” Getter said. “We do have surveillance. We don’t  know if this was caught on that surveillance or by those cameras or not.”

On her Facebook page, posts appearing to be from Harris say she was in a complicated relationship and that she loved being a stepmom to her boyfriend’s two little children. A post in September also read that her then boyfriend had tried to push her off a balcony, and that she was “blessed to be alive”.

Family members told KXAN Harris had a couple of relationships that were problematic. They mentioned the Facebook postings, but also said another boyfriend may have been physically abusive.

The Travis County Sheriff’s office won’t comment on who the list of witnesses and/or potential suspects include.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.
