AUSTIN (KXAN) – Seton Healthcare has selected JE Dunn Construction to be the general contractor for its new $295 million teaching hospital at East 15th and Red River Street.

Seton invited 16 firms to submit their qualifications from which they picked six to provide proposals. From there, four of them were interviewed until they chose JE Dunn. The healthcare provider said they looked at criteria such as safety record, quality of work, experience in erecting large-scale health care facilities with complex operational requirements, financial stability, a good reputation for completing projects on time and within budget and a commitment to working with diverse subcontractors.

JE Dunn is headquartered in  Kansas City, Mo. and has major operations in more than a dozen other cities, including Austin. They previously worked on the 360 Condominiums, 7th and Rio Apartments and IBC Bank Plaza in the city.

Construction of the new 210-bed hospital will begin later this year and completion is expected for 2017. It will replace University Medical Center Brackenridge. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
