WACO, Texas (KXAN/AP) — A man working atop a footbridge at Baylor University’s new football stadium plummeted to his death after construction equipment he was harnessed to fell from a floating dock.

The man and another victim plunged into the Brazos River when the equipment fell.

One of the men was able to remove his harness and free himself before swimming to safety, but the other was not.

Dive crews recovered the body of 55-year-old Jose Dario Suarez, from Manor, about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The man who swam to safety was treated for hypothermia and released from the hospital.

The footbridge is part of the new network of access sidewalks to the football stadium that is under construction. The new 45,000-seat, $260 million McLane Stadium is being built on a 93-acre site near the river.
