A man is dead after a two-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 183 in Caldwell County late Sunday night.

According to the Department of Public Safety, a Ford Escape and a Lexus were headed southbound on US 183, approximately five miles north of Lockhart, when the 17-year-old driver in the Escape stopped but the Lexus behind it did not.

The Escape was pushed into the median where it flipped over. The passenger, 38-year-old Daniel Canon, died at the scene. Officials said he was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. His 17-year-old son was driving at the time.

Both drivers were transported with non-life threatening injuries.

This crash is near the intersection of US 183 and FM 1185, which is the scene of a collision that killed a father and his two sons two weeks ago. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
